What Is Supervision in Occupational Therapy?
Supervision is a supportive, collaborative process where experienced occupational therapists (OTs) guide and mentor their colleagues—whether they're students, new graduates, or seasoned professionals. Think of it as a safe space to reflect on your work, share challenges, and celebrate successes.
It's not about performance reviews or assessments; it's about growth, learning, and building confidence. Through regular supervision, you can explore new ideas, improve your skills, and ensure you're providing the best care possible.
Whether you're just starting out or looking to deepen your practice, supervision helps you stay connected, supported, and inspired in your journey as an OT.
Can you help if I'm Self-Employed or in a Non-Traditional Role?
Definately—working as a self-employed or independent occupational therapist can sometimes feel isolating. I've been there myself, spending my early years in challenging environments, always pushing to exceed the clients and organisations expectations.
Supervision can make all the difference—having someone in your corner, offering a sounding board, a sense-check, and helping to keep your work grounded in best practice. Good supervision isn't just supportive; it's empowering.

Will my employer pay for my supervision
Yes, many employers are willing to invest in external supervision. It helps reduce burnout, offers independent support that may not be available internally, and can improve staff retention. Supported staff are more engaged, resilient, and satisfied in their roles.
Who Is Supervision For?
Supervision is for all registered occupational therapists—whether you're just starting out or leading a team. It's a regular, supportive space to reflect on your work, grow professionally, and stay connected to your passion for helping others. No matter where you are in your career, supervision helps you stay grounded, inspired, supported and always learning.
Can I book supervision sessions as I need them?
I know life gets busy, and it might feel easier to book sessions here and there—but supervision really works best when it’s a regular, ongoing commitment. Meeting monthly helps us build trust, create a safe space, and get the most out of our time together. That’s where the real growth happens—whether we're working 1:1 or in a group.
To make sure we’re a good fit, I offer a free initial call where we can chat about what you’re looking for and how I can support you.

Will there be lots of note-keeping and paperwork?
Not at all! After each session, I'll provide you with supervision notes that are neatly organised and mapped to relevant competencies. This keeps everything simple, secure, and in one place—so you can focus more on your growth and less on paperwork.
Is supervision confidential?
Absolutely! Everything we talk about stays just between us (and the other group members, if you’re in a group). Even if your employer is covering the cost, I won’t share your supervision notes with them. The only exceptions are if there’s a risk to you or others, or if you ask me to share the notes.
Are sessions in person or online?
Online via Zoom / Teams or by phone—wherever you’re comfy and connected.

I believe supervision should be:
Collaborative – A two-way, supportive partnership where you feel heard and understood
Reflective – Space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and decision-making without judgment
Grounded – Rooted in clinical experience and shaped around your goals, not a one-size-fits-all approach
Whether you're working through a tough case or planning long-term career goals, each session is personalised to meet your current needs.
